Our History

Paul Della Tolla

Paul Della Tolla (snr) born in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1909, of Greek Italian descent (island of Tinos) moved to Athens, Greece in the mid 30’s, where he started a cotton merchandising and ginning business until the start of World War II. During the 1940-45 War, enlisted in the Greek Army and later on in the Greek Resistance movement and was awarded the Franco-British Cross.

At the end of the War and the Civil War that followed in Greece, he started again his cotton merchandising and ginning business and expanded into the grain business inaugurating thus his collaboration with Continental Grain in 1957. It is this business that gave birth in 1981 to Conti SA – Athens that later was merged with Dimitriaki S.A. in its present form. Paul Della Tolla (snr) is survived by his son Paul and 2 grand children, Katia and Yianna Della Tolla.

Michel Fribourg

Born in Belgium in 1913, he joined Continental Grain in 1931, and he became the fifth generation of his family to direct Continental Grain. He was the CEO from 1944 to 1988 and chairman until 1994. During five decades at the helm of Continental Grain, he expanded his family’s business into more than 70 countries and transformed Continental Grain into one of the largest agribusiness firms in the world. He was a dominant figure in the international grain business, and he was a strong advocate of open world trade and freedom from government involvement in agricultural markets.

In Memoriam

The following people were valued colleagues and employees of Dimitriaki S.A., who will always stay in our thoughts and hearts.

Antonios Pipinis

He was born in 1927, and he was admitted to AUEB, from where he graduated in 1951. He started working with Dimitriaki SA in 1987, as a tax consultant. His relationship with the company was unique, as he modestly and tirelessly served the history and vision of Dimitriaki’s people. His presence there functioned as an inexhaustible source of prestige and undivided support to the company’s complex tax activity. He remains alive for those who were lucky enough to know him.

Katerina Margiora

She was born in 1946 and she graduated from the Economic Female High School; she studied in and graduated from the AUEB (former Supreme School of Economics and Business) and started her career in LEVER HELLAS S.A., then continued in ITT and later in Schlumberger in Athens and Dubai before coming to work in Dimitriaki in 1985.  We are proud to have had her with us all those years, we miss her, and we will always remember her.

Stefan Cremer

He was born in 1952 and he was our President but he also –and above all- was an inspiring and supportive friend. Stefan always cared for our success in business but also in personal life. He will always be with us.

Takis Stathopoulos

He was born in 1954 and he started working with us in 1989. Since then, until the last days of his life, he worked efficiently in the trading and handling of grains and grew up like all of us along with the company, in which he had been working for 29 years. Takis will be extremely missed and he will remain unforgettable for everything that characterized him.

Antonis Bouchlas

Born in 1958, he graduated from the Chemistry Department of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and worked for thirty years in the company as a quality control chemist, coordinator of food and feed safety management systems, quality manager, as well as a sales representative. Communicative with both clients and colleagues, friendly and with a sense of humor, he generously shared his knowledge and, with dedication, contributed to the company’s growth.
